Unmasking the mission, overcoming challenges, and setting the stage for a January 2024 comeback that'll redefine Sports Passion!
Some personal news coming up! 🚨
As you may have already noticed, I have decided to stop creating the newsletter. 😥 Don’t worry, though; I’m not giving up. January marks my resumption, hopefully with a better plan and position 😌.

In this final newsletter before restarting again next year, I will explain 👇🏼
1. Why start a Newsletter.
As I explained in the first part of my 1st newsletter, I had spare time and I was willing to invest in my professional future. That’s the first reason.
My second motivation for starting a newsletter was—and still is—that it’s a format I feel comfortable using, and there are lots of resources available to help turn it into a polished final product that I thoroughly enjoyed sharing.
Third, and most important reason why almost everyone should start a newsletter:
Demonstrates consistency and passion.
Display your expertise..
Meet fascinating individuals who share your interests.
A bidirectionl way to a persons invoice, promote your projects and get to know your audience easily.
I wrote primarily about cycling, Formula One, football, handball, MotoGP, NBA, NFL, tennis, and padel in the newsletter.
2. The challanges in creating a Newsletter.
2.1 What do you write about.
In my case, I knew from the start that I would write about sports, so what’s the challenge? The issue, in my opinion, was not a lack of content; rather, it was, and I believe still is, deciding which to choose and what format will interest the audience.
You might wonder, given that, why would I stop? What is the challenging aspect?
First of all, it’s difficult to adjust your daily routine to writing. It took me too long to create the newsletter, so in the end it wasn’t long-term viable.
The second, and most crucial thing is that I was writing three newsletters to see which one I enjoyed writing most and which one my readers responded to the most. Of course, there weren’t as many interactions in the absence of promotion.
Despite receiving an average of about 25 views per post, the Substack app did not have any comments or likes, so I was unable to determine what was effective and ineffective.
3. Sometimes a step back its what you need to go forward.
Significantly, I wasn’t sharing or advertising it on my social media accounts because I wanted it to serve as a test run for a newsletter that would be viable and sustainable in the future.
Thus, the difficult part was coming up with ideas for how to promote it. It was unclear to whom I was communicating, as well as why they would take the time to visit and read the newsletter and what its purpose was.
Eventhough I felt confortable with the three formats I had, there were this three clear problems:
Time management: Insufficient time to create the desired product.
Distribation channel: While Substack is a useful tool for sharing, distributing, and analysing newsletters, it is unable to handle embedded tweets, YouTube videos, or other intriguing content, that made my web much more compelling.
Target audience: As previously mentioned, when I tried to explain a close person what and why was I doing, I couldn’t do it with a short sentence. I can’t tell exactly who was my target audience because I don’t know if the person I was imaginating writing to, exist.
For that reason I decided to stop, I rather rearrange to launch it as, something I believe is interesting to someone specific and that I can do it for a long time. If I didn’t, I would start working and burn out, as my only source of motivation would be engagement rather than a belief in the project for its own sake.
4. New layout plan focus in mission and goals.
4.1. I began by identifying the challenges I found in order to address them.
⌛ I was short on time. Approximately two to four hours per week should be dedicated to creation.
📍 My ambiguous desire was to write a sports newsletter, but it wasn’t detailed enough. My goals for the newsletter mission must be genuine and explicit.
🫴🏼 The newsletter’s purpose wasn’t precisely intended for the readership. The newsletter should have a single, distinct goal that satisfies a specific target demographic.
📡 Creating a promotion plan is essential to achieving the goals. Whether it is audio or video, my voice must be used in the promotion strategy.
4.2. This is what my new and unfinished plan version looks like at this stage. Launching date set to be on January 2024.
My personal mission is to show myself consistency.
🍀 Create a personal project I believe in and carry it out for 6 months.
Why creating a newsletter, and descriving its own goals.
🧲 Connect with people within sports sector; mentors, employers, partners, friends…
📖 Showcase my knowladge in sports and multichannel communication.
👥 Creat a community of at least 100 people.
What is the newsletter content going to be? Who is interested with it?
Still figuring it out. Of course, it’s going to be about sports.
The promotion plan, which is going to be adjusted when the target audience is defined.
📽️ Youtube and low edited videos seems a good option because of time management, short vertical videos are more time consuming to create, and podcast remains as another option to keep in mind.
Added value for subscribers.
ℹ️ Some product will be given for subscribers, right now I’m thinking in valuable or usefull information in pdf, ebook or web format.
It’s an effective way to give value and incentivate people to subscribe, because they will get a in-depth review about something related with your routine newsletter and you invest in it for one time although it will be used for every subscriber you get.
This piece of writting was inspiring because it helped me organize what was I doing wrong, what was now the road to take and sharing with you, it feels like a deal that puts good pressure on me to deliver next year.
I found this writing to be inspirational because it helped me recognise my errors, figure out a course of action, and share them with you. The final one feels especially significant, it feels like a deal that puts good pressure on me to deliver next year.
Thank you for reading, I hope we reencounter again next year. 😌
These were the newsletters I started.
Every Wednesday, I was sharing a handpicked collection of links 🔗, along with my take on the latest and greatest news in the sports industry in my opinion. Marketing, business, operational or manegement details 📁.
On Fridays, I tried to help you prepare for the weekend by suggesting the best games or events to watch and giving you some insights on what you should know about them to better enjoy the experience 😮.
In the Sunday newsletter, I put my addiction to watching sports documentaries to good use 🤓 by reviewing and selecting the ones that I think are worth recommending. I’ll also share some interesting thoughts about them, so you’ll have something to add to your watchlist for the afternoon 🛋️📺.
